Detroit Punk Warriors Rock for Vets The Detroit punk rock community rallies for military veterans, as The Walkin’ Talkin’ Toxins, Glitter Trash, Thomas Thomas and Johnny Roastbeef join forces in a benefit for The Wounded Warrior Project on Saturday, September 12 at Paycheck’s Lounge in Hamtramck.
The Walkin’ Talkin’ Toxins are known for their surrealistic guerilla theater stage show – which includes flying love dolls, trampolines, chainsaws and a larger-than-life-size Tony Montana. The group, nominated for a 2006 Detroit Music Award for their video “Casual Violence,” from the critically acclaimed album “Apocalypse Au’ Go-Go”, will be releasing a digital e.p. entitled “Ether.” The new download features the punk anthem “SubUrban Sludge” (a song about Motor City potholes and carnage), the raucous “Tell Natasha Hello,” and a revved-up remake of Bob Dylan’s “Stuck Inside of Mobile. Joining the Toxins will be seminal Detroit punks Glitter Trash, fresh from an appearance at the U.K. Rebellion Fest, and Johnny Roastbeef, a talented trio of amped-up Americana-style rockers. Paycheck’s Lounge, the legendary venue which has hosted virtually every rock-alternative band to ever emerge from the Detroit area, including the White Stripes, the Romantics and members of Nirvana and the MC5, is located at 2932 Caniff, Hamtramck. For information, call (313) 874-0909. Doors open at 8 p.m., with the show slated for a 9 p.m. start. Patrons are encouraged to come early, stay late and support the Wounded Warrior Project… and live local music!
